Age Calculator Tool

The way a person’s age is calculated can vary across different cultures.  For example, someone who has lived for 3 years and 11 months is considered 3 years old, and their age will increase to 4 on their next birthday, which is a month later. This method is widely used in most Western countries.

In some cultures, age is calculated by including or excluding the current year. For instance, a person who is 20 years old might also be described as being in their 21st year of life.

In traditional Chinese age systems, a newborn starts at age 1, and their age increases during the Chinese New Year, regardless of their actual birth date. For example, a baby born one day before the Chinese New Year will be considered 2 years old just two days later, even though they are only 2 days old.

Occasionally, the months and days calculated by this age calculator can seem unclear, especially when the start date falls at the end of a month. For instance, February 20 to March 20 is counted as one month. However, calculating from February 28, 2022, to March 31, 2022, can result in two interpretations.

If February 28 to March 28 is considered one month, the result would be one month and 3 days. On the other hand, if both February 28 and March 31 are regarded as the end of the month, the result is one month. Both methods are valid. Similar scenarios occur with dates such as April 30 to May 31 or May 30 to June 30. This inconsistency arises because months have different numbers of days. In this calculator, we use the first method for consistency.
